Since publication of the Revised Edition and Kana Version of the Japanese for Busy People series, sales of Japanese for Busy People III have been rising steadily in the United States. Teachers and students alike have discovered that Japanese for Busy People III is an excellent way of studying Japanese in a surprisingly short time. This workbook and its companion cassette tapes provide more practice and advice on how to apply what has been learned in the classroom. Each lesson is divided into eight related but independent components. Students begin by "Browsing" through the main theme of the lesson. A "Warming-up" section reviews grammar and sentence patterns. The exercises and drills that make up the "Practice" section provide students with an opportunity to check that they have understood any new grammar points. Comprehension of recordings of radio news programs on the companion Workbook Tapes is improved and tested by activities in the "Listening" section. Stimulating discussions -- also recorded on the companion Workbook Tapes -- and related activities help build speaking and listening skills in the "Conversation" section. "Word Power" helps students understand the different nuances between close synonyms while expanding vocabulary. Reading comprehension skills are developed in a separate "Reading" section that familiarizes the student with authentic written sources taken from books, newspapers, and magazines. Finally, a "Challenge" section encourages students to apply their learning and practice writing by creating dialogues and short essays that can be used in real Japanese conversations.
